FAQ

I have really sensitive skin – what products can I use?

To be clear, none of our products are independently tested or classed as hypoallergenic nor being sold as “allergy free”. To do this we would not be able to produce a synthetic free product, which has always been my aim. However, we have our ‘Unperfumed Sensitive’ range so we would recommend trying these first before trying the smellies. but without all the usual nasties you may find you are good to use our fragranced ones!

Your products use essential oils – could I be allergic?

Oils can be diffused into the air, called aromatherapy, or used topically on the skin. Oils can also be taken by mouth and ingested internally. By doing so, homeopathic practitioners claim that these oils have various health benefits, include physical, mental and spiritual. While essential oils are derived from natural plant sources, this doesn’t mean that they can’t cause side effects, especially allergic reactions.

What is the difference between “Natural” and Organic?

By and large, the labeling of something as either “natural” or “all-natural” is supposed to mean that the product “does not contain added color, artificial flavors or synthetic substances,”. When you see it on food packaging, a food that is “100% organic” is made with 100% organic ingredients and can bear the desirable USDA organic label. If the label reads just “organic,” then it means the product is at least 95% organic.

Are your soaps PH balanced?

Everyone’s skin pH is different, with many factors (including gender, age, diet, health) playing a part in each person’s level, so ‘balanced’ is different for everyone. Soaps made with natural ingredients tend to have a higher pH but even water can increase our pH….and we believe that a natural (full of oils and natural glycerin) soap is more gentle and less drying than a ‘synthetic detergent’ cleansing bar which is ‘pH balanced’.

What is your return policy, and how does it work?

We know most of our loyal customers shop sensibly and only return when you need to. We understand that, sometimes, what arrives is not exactly what you expected and you need to return it. That’s fine – and that’s why we feel it’s important to still offer you free 30 day returns. So, this new clause is very unlikely to affect you. It helps us start the conversation with the few shoppers out there.

Do you have any soap bases without palm oil or the same alternatives ?

Our handmade bar soaps are made with organic palm oil because great palm oil makes great bar soaps. We are happy to report that our palm oil is sustainable palm roundtable certified USDA 100% Organic. Agro Palma, our supplier, won the Green Peace Top Supplier award for several reasons; including that they have the lowest carbon footprint of any major palm producer.

Do you have anything for scars and their healing?

Scars are a natural portion of the body’s healing process. A scar results from the biologic procedure of wound repair in your skin and other tissues. Most of the wounds, except for minor ones, end up in some degree of scarring. These scars can emerge from accidents, ailments, skin conditions such as acne, or even surgeries. Sometimes the wounds and ailments get healed but the scars remain on your skin.

What grade is your shea butter, its benefits and properties?

Our shea butter starts out as raw village made. Then it gets filtered under pressure through natural clay (bleaching clay), neutralized with organic citric acid and super filtered. This would then be lightly refined and also certified to organic food standards. The filtering processes removes the latex in raw shea butter which can be a big issue for latex sensitive people and removes excess water, insects, wood ashes.
